  Our Essential Pollinators

Ian McMaster

A weevil, Elleschodes sp., pollinating a Bolwarra (Eupomatia laurina) flower

Most of the worlds wildlife (including you and I, wild or not) and flowering plants owe our existence to natural pollinators.  Fauna and flora are intimately connected and pollinators are one of the major links.

When you think of plant pollinators in Australia the European Honey Bee probably comes immediately to mind.  However, there are many native insects that are significant pollinators; such as the approximately 2,000 native bee species and around 2,000 butterfly, wasp, fly, moth, beetle, weevil, thrips and ant species, many of which are pollinators.

In our next Barung Connects event, Ian will be presenting an introduction to this fascinating subject canvassing bugs and ecology.

When: Wednesday 17th March                                                      Time:   5.30pm - 6.30pm                                                                             Venue: Supplied on registration
